Mega Froslass is the Mega-Evolved form of Froslass, an Ice- and Ghost-type Pokémon introduced to the Mega Evolution roster in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It retains its original typing while gaining improved Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed, making it a more powerful special attacker.

Players can obtain the Froslassite needed for Mega Evolution by defeating Rogue Mega Froslass during Main Mission 27 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

The Pokémon also appears in the Pokémon Trading Card Game as Mega Froslass ex, a card included in the Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes expansion released in January 2026.

Here is everything players need to know about its evolution, abilities, battle performance and availability.

What Is Mega Froslass?

Froslass is Pokémon number 478 in the National Pokédex and belongs to the Snow Land Pokémon category.

Its regular form is known for combining Ice- and Ghost-type characteristics, giving it access to attacks associated with freezing temperatures and supernatural energy.

Mega Evolution transforms Froslass into a larger and more powerful form without changing its Ice/Ghost typing.

Its appearance becomes more elaborate, with an expanded body and a more imposing, flowing silhouette. The transformation retains the distinctive facial features and colour scheme associated with regular Froslass.

According to the official Pokémon Pokédex entry for Froslass , the Mega-Evolved form stands 2.6 metres tall and weighs 29.6 kilograms. Its ability is Snow Warning, which causes snow to begin falling when it enters battle.

The Pokédex also describes its ability to use ghostly energy and extremely cold air to freeze things that would ordinarily be intangible, including flames and wind.

These characteristics connect its expanded Mega Evolution design with the supernatural abilities already associated with Froslass.

How to Get Mega Froslass in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Obtaining this Mega Evolution requires two things: a Froslass and its corresponding Mega Stone, the Froslassite.

Unlike ordinary evolution, Mega Evolution is a temporary transformation activated during battle.

Players must first obtain a suitable Froslass before equipping it with the required stone.

Step 1: Obtain a Froslass

Froslass evolves from a female Snorunt when exposed to a Dawn Stone.

Snorunt has two different evolutionary possibilities. It can evolve into Glalie after reaching level 42, while a female Snorunt can evolve into Froslass through the use of a Dawn Stone.

The Dawn Stone is therefore essential for players who want to evolve Snorunt specifically into Froslass.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, players can also encounter an Alpha Froslass in Wild Zone 20. This provides another way to obtain the Pokémon without evolving a Snorunt.

An Alpha Froslass can appear in the central area of the zone at night.

Step 2: Obtain the Froslassite

The Froslassite is the Mega Stone required to transform Froslass into its Mega-Evolved form.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, players receive this stone after defeating Rogue Mega Froslass during Main Mission 27, titled A Rogue Mega Froslass.

The encounter takes place in the Bleu District of Lumiose City, where players must navigate a rooftop route to reach the Pokémon.

The route includes sections where Pokémon attacks can be used to interact with ice formations and create bridges.

After successfully reaching the encounter and defeating Rogue Mega Froslass, players obtain the Froslassite.

The Froslassite location and acquisition guide  confirms that the stone is rewarded after the Main Mission 27 encounter and can subsequently be equipped to Froslass as a held item.

Step 3: Activate Mega Evolution

Once Froslass is holding the Froslassite, players can use Mega Evolution during battle.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Mega Evolution becomes available when the Mega Power gauge has been sufficiently filled.

Activating the transformation temporarily changes Froslass into its Mega-Evolved form, providing increased battle statistics.

The Pokémon returns to its regular form after the transformation ends.

The Froslassite does not permanently evolve the Pokémon or replace its ordinary evolutionary form.

Mega Froslass Stats and Abilities

Mega Evolution significantly increases Froslass’s offensive capabilities, particularly its Special Attack.

Its total base stats increase from 480 to 580, with additional improvements to Special Defense and Speed.

The following table compares its regular and Mega-Evolved forms.

Base statFroslassMega Froslass
HP7070
Attack8080
Defense7070
Special Attack80140
Special Defense70100
Speed110120
Total480580

The most substantial improvement is its Special Attack, which increases by 60 points.

Its Special Defense rises by 30 points, while Speed increases by 10 points.

These changes make the Mega-Evolved form better suited to dealing damage through special moves such as Ice Beam and Shadow Ball.

However, its HP and physical Defense remain unchanged, meaning that physical attacks can still present a significant threat.

Snow Warning ability

Mega Froslass has the Snow Warning ability in Pokémon games where abilities are active.

Snow Warning automatically creates snow when the Pokémon enters battle.

This weather condition supports Ice-type strategies and allows Blizzard to hit without its usual accuracy check while snow is active.

It also enables combinations with Aurora Veil, a move that reduces damage received by the user’s team while the appropriate weather condition is in effect.

The official Pokémon competitive overview of Pokémon Champions identifies Snow Warning, Blizzard and Aurora Veil as important components of Mega Froslass’s battle role.

Weaknesses and Battle Strategy

Mega Froslass retains its Ice/Ghost typing, giving it five elemental weaknesses.

Attack typeEffectiveness
FireSuper effective
RockSuper effective
GhostSuper effective
DarkSuper effective
SteelSuper effective

Its typing also provides immunity to Normal- and Fighting-type attacks under the standard type-effectiveness rules.

Although its improved Speed and Special Attack provide offensive advantages, it remains vulnerable to powerful physical attacks and moves that exploit its elemental weaknesses.

For players facing Rogue Mega Froslass in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Fire-type attacks can be particularly useful.

During the boss encounter, the Pokémon uses several attacks that require players to move around the battlefield rather than simply exchange attacks.

Its Phantom Force attack allows it to disappear and reappear elsewhere, while its ice-based attacks can create dangerous areas throughout the arena.

Players must also avoid falling icicles during its charging sequence.

Some of these icicles remain standing and can provide cover against a subsequent Blizzard attack.

Using them as protection is an important part of surviving the encounter.

Mega Froslass ex in the Pokémon Trading Card Game

Mega Froslass also appears in the Pokémon Trading Card Game as Mega Froslass ex.

The card was included in the Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes expansion, which was released on January 30, 2026.

The expansion features several Mega Evolution Pokémon ex alongside other Pokémon cards.

Mega Froslass ex is a Stage 1 Water-type card with 310 HP. Unlike the video game version, which is an Ice/Ghost Pokémon, its TCG classification is Water.

The card’s attacks include Resentful Refrain and Absolute Snow.

Resentful Refrain deals 50 damage for each card in the opposing player’s hand, allowing its damage output to increase considerably when the opponent holds multiple cards.

Absolute Snow deals 150 damage and leaves the opposing Active Pokémon Asleep.

As a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, the card also carries a specific drawback: an opponent takes three Prize cards when it is Knocked Out, rather than the two normally awarded for defeating a Pokémon ex.

The official Pokémon website discusses its strategic role in a Mega Starmie ex deck-building guide that features Mega Froslass ex , explaining how Resentful Refrain can punish opponents who maintain large hands.

Its appearance in both the video games and the trading card game gives players different ways to use the Pokémon’s Mega-Evolved form.

Final Thoughts

Mega Froslass expands the original Pokémon’s battle capabilities through improved Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed while retaining its distinctive Ice/Ghost typing.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, obtaining the Froslassite through Main Mission 27 allows players to activate its Mega Evolution during battle.

Its Snow Warning ability also gives it a role in weather-based strategies in games such as Pokémon Champions.

For trading card players, Mega Froslass ex offers a separate battle mechanic built around dealing damage according to the number of cards in an opponent’s hand.

Together, these appearances establish the Mega-Evolved form as part of both the current Pokémon video game roster and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
